Less RAM than shown in the control panel? (Dynamic RAM) Print

  • 0

If your server shows less RAM inside the operating system than in the control panel, don’t worry — your RAM didn’t go on vacation.

On services that use Dynamic RAM, the control panel shows the maximum memory available under your plan, while the operating system may show only the amount currently active.

This is because RAM is allocated based on actual workload, rather than being fully presented to the OS at all times. If your server is not using much memory, the full amount may not appear inside the system yet.

This is normal behavior and does not mean any RAM is missing or that anything was configured incorrectly. When your workload needs more memory, additional RAM will be made available automatically, up to your plan limit.

In short:

  • The control panel shows the maximum RAM available
  • The OS may show less RAM when current usage is low
  • More RAM is allocated automatically when needed
  • A reboot or shutdown is usually not required

You can continue using the service normally. If you experience actual OOM events, please provide the relevant timestamps or logs and we will be happy to investigate further.
